The Breakfast Club: Great Starts, Happy Endings

My mom has been craving for their Bibimbap since the first time we’ve been here (that was about 6 months ago), and finally, Dadi brought us there. Their menu has expanded since the last time we’ve been there. They now serve wings, salmon, and many other comfort food.

The Breakfast Club is owned by the celebrity Ms. Erich Gonzales. This place has been featured in KrisTV (Kris loved their Bibimbap!), and I have read good comments on their food from several celebrities’ Instagram account.

Their complimentary toast basket consists of Cream Bread and Melba Toast with garlic butter spread. The melba toast was really bland, but the cream bread was really creamy and soft. The spread was superb; it tasted great with the soft, warm bread.

This salad is a medley of iceberg lettuce, carrots, red bell pepper, cucumber, kani, mangoes, and black sesame seeds. I had the Japanese mayo dressing on the side because too much dressing on salads make me sick.

The salad was good even without the dressing. The kani and mangoes were able to carry the salad until the very last bite.

Their Bibimbap was served with the rice at the bottom of a hot pot, and the “viands” on top. This is composed basically of white rice, bean sprouts, turnip, carrots, zucchini, chicken cubes, fried egg, and sriracha sauce. You mix everything together while the pot is still hot. It will look like this…

This is our favourite from TBC. I like this because it’s spicy and the vegetables tasted great with the viands and sauce.

I don’t find this dish delicious. It’s salty and sour – and these two flavours don’t taste well together

Their beef is really tender, juicy, and mildly sweet. And this is the perfect type of tapa for me (even my mom, a really picky eater, said that their tapa was great). This dish is definitely a must-try!

Sweet, fall-off-the-bone tender meat, and extremely juicy. This is the best ribs in town! Not to mention, their mashed potato (it’s kinda blurred in the picture) is divine. Super love this! I just wish that it isn’t too big and filling and fattening. Hahaha

I’m a chocolate hater, so I’m basing my review here on how my mom and little sister described it. My little sister loved it (no surprise), and my mom did not say anything. This means that the cake was so-so. Oh, I ate the cherry. Hahaha!

This place is great! Drop by and indulge in these quality food.

Pan de Gourmet

Buying food in school is something I rarely do, and every time I do, I always make sure to choose the ones that make my mouth water.

Last Tuesday, I was forced to buy dinner in school because we had a class until nine in the evening (I know it sucks). On my way to class, I happened to pass by the LS Bookstore and the food stall there caught my attention (and tummy). The stall was called “Pan de Gourmet.”

A lover of pan de sal, I will not allow myself to just pass by the place. Of course, I have to get one; so I did. I got their Grilled Keso flavored pan, and at first bite, I can definitely say that it was the WORST PAN DE SAL /CHEESE SANDWICH I’VE EVER TASTED.

I’m sorry for the ugly photo. I was in a hurry because it was raining.

There are three things that disappointed me:

1. The wrapper

When I got my food, it looked horrible. Why in the world did they use tissue to wrap the pan? It made me feel like it was just something my yaya made for me, and like there is nothing special so I didn’t appreciate the food that much.

2. The Pan

I expected the pan de sal to be tasty and kind of creamy because it was “gourmet,” but it wasn’t tasty at all. I’d rather eat the pandesal we buy in the local bakeshops around our place.

3. The filling

It says in their menu that the one I got is called GRILLED KESO, so I expected the cheese to be melted, and kind of burnt and crispy (that’s how I always like my cheese sandwich) but it wasn’t. I was just plain grated cheese with nothing special about it. It was as if I was eating a whole block of cheese from the fridge.

So to sum everything up, I was very disappointed with what I got. My expectations were not met at all, and because of that, I’m never buying from this JSEC stall again.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

Eating out for breakfast is one of the things I do not fancy. I like having breakfast at home because it is my favourite meal of the day and I always want it to be healthy. By healthy, I mean no oil, grains, processed food, and sugary food.  So the only choices I have  for breakfast are these: oatmeal, fresh fruits, yogurt, and smoothies.

One fine morning, my parents decided to pull me out of the house for breakfast. I hesitated upon their invitation to dine out, but I ended up going with them because it is a rare thing for us to have breakfast out so early.

We went around Tomas Morato to search for a good place to eat, but unfortunately, the restaurants I have in mind all open at eleven in the morning  and it was just eight o’clock then. So we decided to go to Banawa instead. On our way there, we happened to pass by this place that has people.; and to our delight, it was the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

I bid my supposed-to-be-healthy breakfast goodbye, and instead decided to enjoy the hearty breakfast the place offers; so I got myself some Eggs Benedict and Chinese Chicken Salad.

It was also my first time to try an eggs Benedict. I didn’t like it that much because I felt like the egg has too much butter (I hate butter). The bread, I loved. I have always (and forever I will) loved bread. Their bread/muffin was soft and warm. It greets you a good morning, just like how the sunny colour of the eggs Benedict does.

This salad has greens, fried tofu, vermicelli, chicken chops, and sweet & sour dressing. I first tried this when I was in school. I remember raving about this for days after I had tried it for the first time. It was still as good as the first time I’ve had it, and it didn’t disappoint – not even a bit.

So overall, this breakfast, although I still prefer eating breakfast at home, was a great one. It wasn’t as “unhealthy” as I expected it would be, and the food were all great.

To more great mornings you guys! ;)

Still, Starbucks is Better

In Fisher Mall’s cinema, every time you buy a movie ticket, you get a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for Seattle’s Best Coffee’s Frappuccino. Upon seeing the coupon, I got really excited because honestly, I have never tried SBC. I thought its beverages were similar to that of Starbucks’ but I was mistaken.

At first sip, all my expectations turned into vapor. It was horrible; I wanted to throw my drink away as soon as possible. I cannot stand taking another sip ans do did my siblings. But because the drink was pricey (although we got both for the price of one), we force ourselves to gulp the whole cup down.

And from that day on, I swore that I will never have another cup of Seattle’s Best Coffee.

Sunny Bowl Up!

As I have said in my previous post, oatmeal with fruits is my favorite breakfast; and here is another one of my super combination! This has mangoes, strawberries, and a dollop of honey. Yum yum!

Small But Terrible

It wasn’t until I saw Chez Karine in Serendra that I started obsessing over macarons. These tiny and delicate stuff instantly blew me off. The crisp shells and foot, the not-too-sweet filling – they are in perfect ratio; thus, creating a perfect and irresistible harmony inside your mouth.

I have been craving for macarons since last week when Mom and I went to Robinsons Magnolia. Since I was on a strict diet, I resisted the urge to buy some from Bizu; but when we happened to pass by Chez Karine earlier, I was able to contain myself no more. I went in and looked at the pile of colorful and tempting macarons.

But then, because I have discipline, I only got two. Both are my super favorite food flavors: Matcha and Strawberry.

I was supposed to eat my macarons in the car, so that I would be able to savor every bite of this meager dessert of mine; and I was also imagining my fingers lacing through the delicate macaron shell, slowly biting, chewing and analyzing every taste and detail of this precious thing… BUT I WASN’T ABLE TO CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT. I already finished one before the receipt was even printed.

Matcha Red Bean ★☆☆☆☆
It was my first time to try a matcha flavored macaron, and my expectations were sky high. I don’t know if it was because I downed this piece too quickly or what, but I had not tasted (not even at its slightest) any matcha flavor. Also, I found the filling too sweet. But then it is a macaron, and it has satisfied my craving.

Strawberry ★★★☆☆

I can taste real strawberry in its filling, but only a slight hint of the fruit. I ate half of this, and offered the other half to my dad. Of course, he took it.
I was quite disappointed with their macarons today. But I’ll definitely come back for the other colors of the macaron rainbow.

A Perfect Morning

Waking up for school is something we all dread. After staggering our ways to change for school, we drag our sleepy heads to the dining room, then rest it on the table (or plate, haha).

I myself am guilty of that. Everyday. But of course, there are these days when we feel extremely energetic for some reasons, and this happens to me every time I have a very hearty nad yummy breakfast.

My favorite breakfast is oatmeal with fruits, and I like it hot, really really hot. Below is the recipe for the perfect oatmeal.IMG_5658
